Hey, what’s the weather like where you are?
It’s, um, dark here. (It’s 9pm and I’m speed-writing this so that I can squeeze in an episode of Line of Duty before bed. As you were…) So I don’t know why I asked that but basically this is the awkward preamble before we cut to the chase about why we’re writing.
Actually, let’s just cut to the chase. We’re running a poetry session with writer, broadcaster and performer Kate Fox next week and it really might be the best thing you could do if you came.
It’s £15. You can book your place here.
We don’t really know our arses from our elbows at the moment. Does anyone?! But the utterly fabulous Kate let us host this on a whim last month and it turned out to be one of the most marvellous things we’ve *ever* done. And we had almost nothing to do with it. (Hmm, maybe that’s the key to its success…)
Don’t believe us? Here’s what folks told us about it afterwards…
It was so nice to be free writing, and coming up with some lovely unexpected words – and hearing others' poems too.
I appreciated just having the time to really concentrate, and I thought the prompts were really helpful.
The final exercise was great – a real surprise. Also loved the sense of community that you two have so brilliantly nurtured.
Loved this fabulous power hour of free-writing and word association – lovely to spend time writing for me and not for work.
A really creative session that helped me concentrate on my writing and try something new.
It was like an hour out of time.
This was the first poetry workshop I’ve been to and I loved every minute. It was really welcoming, fun and practical. I didn’t want it to end!
I think it was Wordsworth who stated: ‘Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity.’ We’d love you to join us for an hour of that kind of tranquility.
So anyway. You coming? Be fast, numbers are limited and tickets will fly. Go!
Until then, here’s the usual…
A piece of advice we valued
This Instagram post by the brilliant Suzy Reading helped us fathom why we’re not rushing to the pub. (Yet.)
A piece we loved writing…
Our Hazel passed her Grade 8 singing exam recently, by the way. In case you haven’t heard. (No-one hasn’t heard.) She penned this cracker.
A piece we loved reading…
This. Is. Fascinating.
A podcast we enjoyed…
Brilliant coach, writer and podcaster Jenny Stallard asked us to be on her Freelance Feels podcast recently. We had a ball and laughed A LOT. You can give us a listen here.
Muse Flashers we’re especially proud of…
Emma is one of our faves and she somehow penned this utterly beautiful piece in the midst of heartbreak. I (Heidi) lost my Dad last month too, and Emma’s piece really struck a chord with me.
News coming soon…
Did someone say Muse Flash full-service agency? What a good idea. Pitching courses are so 2020 and everyone teaches freelancing skills these days. So we thought not collaborate and create something that will help us all find more of the work we love? We’ll be looking for writers and creatives of all kinds to join our collective. More anon!
Love,
Heidi & Hazel
